Overview
Tingmo for Android (package name com.mobireader.tingmo) is an offline book reader and text-to-speech app operated by 9drops, an independent developer. Tingmo does not require an account and does not include advertising or a developer-operated analytics service.
Books and reading data
Books and images you choose to import, extracted text, reading position, and preferences are processed and stored in the app's private storage on your device. Speech is generated locally during playback. Tingmo does not upload this content to the developer's servers. Cloud backup and device-to-device transfer of Tingmo's app data are disabled.
Image text recognition
When you import an image, Tingmo uses Google ML Kit to recognize text on your device. Google states that the image input and recognized output are not sent to Google servers. The ML Kit SDK may contact Google for bug fixes, updated models, and hardware compatibility information, and may collect app information, device information, per-installation identifiers, and performance or utilization metrics for diagnostics, analytics, maintenance, abuse prevention, and service improvement. Google states that this SDK data is encrypted in transit and is not shared with third parties. Learn more in Google's ML Kit terms and privacy information.
Network access
Tingmo accesses the network in the following circumstances:
- When you choose Import from URL, Tingmo connects directly to the HTTPS address you provide. The website and its service providers may receive information normally included in an internet request, such as your IP address, request time, and user agent, under their own privacy policies.
- When Google Play loads product information, processes a Tingmo Pro purchase, or restores a purchase.
- When Google ML Kit performs the limited service and metrics activity described above.
Google Play purchases
Tingmo Pro purchases are processed by Google Play. Tingmo reads the product details, purchase status, and purchase token required to unlock or restore features. The developer does not receive your full payment card details. Google's handling of payment and account information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Permissions
Tingmo requests notification permission so it can show playback status and media controls while reading aloud. It uses an Android media playback foreground service to continue audio when the app is in the background. Tingmo does not request access to your location, contacts, microphone, camera, or broad device storage. You select each file or image that Tingmo opens through Android's system document interface or another app's share action.
Data sharing, security, and retention
The developer does not sell personal data. Data may be handled by Google Play, Google ML Kit, or a website you explicitly choose as described above. HTTPS is required for URL imports, and local books are kept in app-private storage. Temporary import files are deleted after processing. A book and its extracted text are deleted when you remove that book; remaining local app data is deleted when you clear Tingmo's data or uninstall the app. Data retained by Google or a website you choose is subject to that provider's retention policy.
Children
Tingmo is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children through a developer-operated service. Google services used by the Android app may process the limited data described in this policy.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when Tingmo's features, SDKs, or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version.
